                 PHASE O' RAMA MAP

NOTE: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! This map may not be suitalbe for net play. I only made it a net map because I thought it might work as one. BUT DO NOT TRUST IT. The phasing techniques used in the map are BY NATURE buggy. There are unfixable visual bugs and bugs that I don't know how to fix if they are in fact fixable in the first place. These bugs may lead to a sychonization problem or other problems in net play. Not ever haveing net played my self... I do not have first hand knowlege of map bugs that affect net play. So use this map in net play at your own disgretion (obviously) and don't come rageing at me if it screws your game up ruining the only chance you have to relax all week. :)

With that aside, I can talk a little bit about this map. The idea struck me one night whilst fooling around with Pfhorte. I was attempting to make stairs that looked like they were comeing out of a roof top. I succeeded in doing this and went on to develope techinques to improve the look and complexity of my maps using these types of stairs. The stairs used a type of phasing techiniuqe, although, the structure its self could have acctualy been concievable in real life. I then decided to take that phasing a step further and tried to make maps that used REAL PHASING such as Bungies net map '5-D Space' (but much much more complex). I created a map that was a test map called, Pfhunky Stairs.
That map was essentialy a set of double deckard stairs, where I used phasing techinques while still keeping the basic structure with in the relm of reality. In other words the Phasing used in my Pfhunky Stairs map defined a structure that can acctualy exist. After figureing this map out... it was easy to creat all new sorts of phasing techinques.
If you notice in my 'Phase O' Rama' map, I have the same type of double deckard stairs at the bottom portion of the map... but in this one, instead of haveing a lower stairwell, I have replaced it with a true hallway. This, of course, creates a tottaly impossible structure simmilar to what exists in Bungies '5-DSpace'.
More ideas crept into my skull, and I devised more devious phasing stuff such as a passage way that crosses the entire width of the map to the other side and cieling high pillars from which you pop out of from seemingly no where or creep into from the floor.
Then the crowning acheivment. My brother and I finaly figured out BRIDGES! If you remember Bugies maps very well... you will have remembered a small bridge (I can't remember what level). It was acctualy a bridge which you could walk upon, then fall to the floor and walk underneath. I have been able to duplicate this (but you don't have to fall to the floor to go underneath)... there are 5 sections to my 'bridge' with the last being a look out post. Notice the stairs that PHASE from the bottom of the finnal bridge polygon then up to the top (hmm... just like stairs that come up out of a roof!) :)
Anyway, I hope you like this map and the ideas presented within. I have attached a nice tuturial to this map so that you can learn how I created all this neat stuff! (well.. the bridge at least) :)

Note: This map was created (all polygons and lighting) with Pfhorte1.0d13 and edited (monsters and objects were added) with MIA1.0b17 and represents approximately 16 hours of work. *whew*

Thank you Steve Israelson and Dan Walkowski for two WONDERFUL editors!

HAVE FUN!
